From a
archaeo-astronomical point of view Prasat Phanom Rung and Kuti Rishi
Ban Khok Muang (located at the nearby and more well-known Prasat Muang
Tam) are related: In the days the sun rises aligned with the structure
of Prasat Phanom Rung it sets aligned with Kuti Rishi Ban Khok Muang.-
and vice versa.
ตามแนวคิดของนักโบราณดาราศาสตร์ปราสาทพนมรุ้งและกุฎิฤาษีบ้านโคกเมือง(ตั้งอยู่ใกล้ปราสาทที่คนทั่วไปรู้จักดีคือปราสาทเมืองต่ำ)ทั้ง
2 ที่มีความสัมพันธ์กันคือ ในวันที่ดวงอาทิตย์ขึ้นตรงผ่าน 15
ช่องประตูที่พนมรุ้ง จะตกตรงที่กุฎิฤาษีบ้านโคกเมือง
และในทางกลับกันถ้าดวงอาทิตย์ตกตรง 15 ช่องประตูที่พนมรุ้ง

The annual
festival at Prasat Phanom Rung Historical Park was in 2007 celebrated
from the 2nd of April to the 5th.
In relation to Prasat Phanom Rung and astronomy year
2007 is special in several ways. One is that the date of the full moon
coincided with the solar events. The sun rose visible through all 15
doorways of Prasat Phanom Rung from the 2nd of April to the 5th. The
moon was full on the night between the 2nd and 3rd (00:15:02).
The local people around Phanom Rung have from time
immemorial timed their annual festival for ascending the mountain to
the full moon in April. After Prasat Phanom Rung became Prasat Phanom
Rung Historical Park the annual Light and Sound Show was fixed to the
beginning of April in an attempt to coincide it with the sunrise
visible through all 15 door-ways.
In 2007 the old and the new costumes coincided; only
one day apart. The
next time this will happen will be in April 2026 and after that every
19-years.
In 2008 the sun will rise aligned with the door-ways of
Prasat Phanom Rung on the 3rd of April and the full moon will be on
the 20th of April; 17 days apart. |

ตั้งแต่โบราณนานมาแล้วคนท้องถิ่นบริเวณรอบปราสาทพนมรุ้งมีงานประจำปีขึ้นเขาพนมรุ้ง
ในวันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 5 ต่อมา
หลังจากที่ปราสาทพนมรุ้งกลายเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติปราสาทพนมรุ้ง งานแสดง แสง
สี เสียง ถูกจัดชึ้นในต้นเดือนเมษายน
ของทุกปีเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับวันที่ดวงอาทิตย์สาดส่องตรง 15 ช่องประตู
ในปี พ.ศ.2550
นี้ประเพณีแบบเก่าและแบบใหม่ได้มาบรรจบสอดคล้องอย่างลงตัว
แตกต่างแค่วันเดียว เหตุการณ์แบบนี้จะเกิดขึ้นอีกครั้ง ในเดือนเมษายน
2569 และเกิดอีกทุกๆ 19 ปี

Rule 1:
When the sun rises aligned with the structure of Prasat Phanom Rung it
will set aligned with the structure of Kuti Rishi Ban Khok Muang (and
other sites oriented app. 95.5 degrees true east)
Rule 2: When the sun rises aligned with the
structure of Prasat Phanom Rung on a full-moon-day, then the full-moon
will rise aligned with the structure of Kuti Rishi Ban Khok Muang the
same day. NB: Next occasion will be in April 2026!

The nearly full moon will rise at azimuth 94.0 degrees
at 17:47 the 1st of April 2026. It will be full moon on the 2nd of
April 2026 at 09:12, and the sun will rise aligned with the structure
of Prasat Phanom Rung the 3rd.
The nearly full moon rose at azimuth 96.0 degrees at
18:06 the 2nd of April 2007. It was full moon on the 4th of April 2026
at 00:15, and the sun rose aligned with the structure of Prasat Phanom
Rung the 4th.

The
propitiation ceremony

พิธีบวงสรวง
Buriram province arranged a holy propitiation ceremony
by arranging a nightly Shiva ceremony and a Siamese (Thai)
auspicious
recitation for the king due to the King's 80
years Birthday celebrations.
The
propitiation ceremony started
late afternoon and ended late evening on the 2nd of April - the 15th
ascending day of the Thai solar-lunar calendar, which always is a holy
day.

At sunrise the 3rd of
April the full disks of the setting full moon and the rising sun were
visible just above the horizon at 06:05:45 - and both visible from the
linga in the central sanctuary.
If the linga still was made of polished gold, then the
Brahmin conducting his morning ritual, worshipping Shiva, would be able to
see the reflections of the Moon and the Sun in the linga for a short
while. And as the linga symbolises Shiva, whose 2 eyes were said to be the
Sun and the Moon, then this very moment would be the moment
- perfectly ending the
propitiation ceremony.

เป็นเวลาเดียวกันกับที่ดวงจันทร์ในวันเพ็ญตก
ดวงอาทิตย์จะขึ้นพ้นขอบฟ้าในเวลา 06.05.45 น.
และจะสามารถมองเห็นทั้งดวงอาทิตย์ และ
ดวงจันทร์อยู่ตรงข้ามในเวลาเดียวกันนี้
จากปราสาทองค์ประธานที่พระศิวลึงค์ประดิษฐานอยู่
ถ้าพระศิวลึงค์ทำด้วยทองคำที่มีความแวววาว พราห์ม
ซึ่งกำลังทำพิธีนมัสการองค์พระศิวลึงค์อยู่จะสามารถมองเห็นเงาสะท้อนของทั้งดวงอาทิตย์และดวงจันทร์ในองค์
พระศิวลึงค์ในช่วงขณะนั้น และพระศิวลึงค์ซึ่งเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของพระศิวะ
